With some regulars taking the night off in order to get rested and focused for the MLH Finals, which start Tuesday night at Iroquois Park at 7:30 PM, the Dunnies were missing players like Peter MacKellar, Ron Baker, Bob McQuat, Chad Ford and Mike Pawlak but the players that made the trip came to play.

Mar122010_4_566In a very fast and entertaining game the two teams put on a clinic on passing. Players from both teams concentrated on making plays and there were some highlight reel goals on the night. The Real McCoys got off to a good start on goals by Rob DeCiantas and Mike Kennedy before Jay McAuley, who made his return after a long injury layoff, got the Dunnies on the board. A last minute goal by Shawn Shewchuk had the visitors on their heels a bit and that carried into the second period.

Justin Davis tallied to give Dundas a two goal cushion but that is when the Dunlop offense woke up. Shane Terry started the four goal outburst by the Dunlops in the second period on a shorthanded breakaway Mar122010_1_566goal and this seemed to ignite the anaemic Dunlop attack. JR Holmes who was wheeling with the puck all night long got his on a nice setup from David Silverstone. Colin Baker was sprung along the boards by David Silverstone a couple of minutes later for a break down the wing and Baker made no mistake when he gunned one past Dan Turple in the Real McCoys net to even the count at 4-4. The Dunnies netted a last minute goal themselves to close the second period scoring when Jon Ross knifed his way towards the crease before depositing the puck past Turple.

Bobby-AttersleyThe see-saw battle continued into the third. Frank Grandis got the McCoys back into a tie just over four minutes into the period but a tireless forechecking display by the Dunlops kept the Dundas squad a bit off balance. Andrew Gibbons got the winner and Adam Van Dam would 'seal the deal' with an insurance goal into the empty Dundas net to make the final score 7-5 for Whitby.

While on the bus ride home it was learned that Bobby Attersley, 'Mr. Whitby Dunlop', had passed away earlier in the evening. Our condolences and prayers go out to the Attersley Family from all the Whitby Dunlop Family. Bobby Attersley was a very visible part of the current Dunlops, was always helping to promote the team and will be certainly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Whitby takes on the Vipers this afternoon before commencing their best 4 of 7 series against the Dundas Real McCoys which will start on uesday night with a game in Whitby.
