MacKellar and Ford are HOT going into playoffs In their final regular season game of the 2007-2008 season the Dunnies looked sharp at times and sloppy at others but still managed an entertaining 7-4 victory over the Simcoe County Canucks. Chad Ford, Whitby’s goaltender, was back in the net after being off for the last few games and got the workout he needed to get sharp for the playoffs as he faced a constant buzzing of Canucks around his net. He managed to stop 38 of the 42 shots that he faced with many of them being of the “fantastic save” variety. The Dunnies were generous to their visitors by constantly giving up odd man rushes that Ford bailed them out of. Peter MacKellar got stronger as the game went on and got 4 goals (one into the empty net) in leading the team to their 1st place EOSHL finish. The other Whitby goals came from Jason McAuley who had 2 and newly re-signed Joe Van Volsen who got his on a nice setup from Jeremy Brown. The Dunnies managed to score in the last minute of each period to salt away their 24th victory and head into the first round of the playoffs. One of either the Norwood Vipers or the Simcoe County Canucks will be the first round opponents which the Dunnies will face. The Simcoe County Canucks have their own fate in hand when they face Frankford Huskies this afternoon. If the hometown Canucks wins then the Dunlops will face Norwood. If the Canucks loose then the Dunnies will face Simcoe County. All playoff rounds in the EOSHL will be a best 4 of 7 series. Marmora has been eliminated by virtue of their last place 2 point finish.
In EOSHL news: Whitby player Bob McQuat wins EOSHL Best Defenseman of the Year award. This is the 3rd time that the Dunlops have had a player win this award. Matt Cardwell and Mike Van Volsen have also been selected in the Dunnies recent years. Game Summary
Dunlops win BIG over Lakers A first period flurry with 3 goals in 18 seconds (2 by Whitby sandwiched by 1 Marmora tally) got things going in Whitby's last 2007-2008 regular season road win. Jason McAuley, who had a 5 point night (2G – 3A), scored first on the Dunnies 2nd power play of the game only to see the Lakers tie the game up 12 seconds later. It was then Derek McEvoy who stormed back 6 seconds after the Marmora goal on a face off win by Colin Baker to start the Dunlops goal parade over the EOSHL last place hosts. Six unanswered goals counting McEvoy’s put the game out of reach by the 7 minute mark of the 2nd period. A hat trick by Justin Cardwell, who is getting himself into playoff form, and 2 goal performances by Peter MacKellar, Jason McAuley and Colin Baker were way too much for Marmora to handle as the Whitby Dunlops peppered 78 shots at the Marmora goaltending tandem (Simon Labelle and Daryl Rothon). On route to their 23rd victory of the regular 2007-2008 season Ron Baker and Matt Armstrong picked up 4 assists each. The Dunnies will face the Simcoe County Canucks (formerly the Cooks Bay Canucks) in their last 2007-2008 regular season home game on Saturday Feb 16th at Iroquois Park – 6:30PM. The first round of the EOSHL playoff dates will be announced shortly for the best of 7 series with the opponent to be determined. Game Summary
Jon Ross and Jason McAuley Lead Dunlops to victory Two goals each by Jon Ross and Jason McAuley along with 3 point nights from Bob McQuat and Justin Cardwell was enough to come from behind and beat the visiting Norwood Vipers by a score of 8-5. After Dale Junkin scored just after 1 minute was played Norwood popped 3 goals (1 shorthanded, 1 even strength and 1 powerplay) to take a 3-1 lead by around the midway point of the first period. Jon Ross scored his first of two on the night before the period ended. In the 2nd period the Dunnies went ahead on goals by Ross, MacKellar and newly re-signed Joe Van Volsen before Jeff Mackie closed the gap to one. Joe Van Volsen’s goal was the prettiest of the game that came from a perfect pass from Justin Cardwell who had frozen the goalie and feathered the puck right onto Van Volsen’s stick. Jason McAuley’s 1st of the game proved to be the eventual winner. Justin Cardwell scored late in the 3rd on a beautifully executed play that was set up by Bob McQuat to salt the victory away. Dale Junkin left the game with a muscle pull after his 2nd shift in the middle stanza. Chris Hardell minded the goal for the victorious Dunnies and faced 39 Viper shots. Game Summary
Bob McQuat leads Dunnies to victory with Hat Trick Two power play goals and then one shorthanded scored by Bob McQuat gave the Dunlops a lead they never relinquished as they rolled over the Marmora Lakers by a 7-2 score. Bob McQuat earned 1st star honors for his effort. McQuat opened the scoring in both the 1st and 2nd period. Colin Baker sandwiched one in between before McQuat’s shorthanded maker that poll vaulted the home team to a 4-0 lead by just past the half way point in the contest. Marmora squeaked one in in the last minute of the period but recently re-signed Justin Cardwell and Joe VanVolsen combined efforts to restore the Dunnies 4 goal lead early in the 3rd period. Jason McAuley and Jeremy Brown rounded out the scoring for Whitby. Chris Hardill minded the net for the Dunlops. The game that was scheduled to be played in Marmora on Friday February 1 will be rescheduled and posted here as soon as it is. Game Summary

Ron Baker (with his 2nd of the game) and Jon Ross were the goal scorers. Norwood’s leading scorer, Darren Doherty, got the Vipers on the board with his first of three goals in the period before Peter MacKellar tallied to give the visiting Dunlops a short-lived three goal cushion once again. Doherty netted 2 goals prior to the end of the 2nd period to send the teams to the dressing room with the Vipers now trailing by one goal. MacKellar put the visitors in the lead 5-3 with his marker (2nd of the game) at 2:17 of the 3rd but Doherty once again went to work. This time it was in setting up two goals to even the count at 5-5 that sent the game into suddedn death overtime. The short staffed Dunlops coming out victorious on Mussleman's winner. Game Summary
The Dunnies win their 19th game of the season A hat trick by Jason McAuley powered the Dunnies to their league leading 19th win. The newly named Simcoe County Canucks (formerly the Cooks Bay Canucks) scored first but McAuley tied it up for the Dunlops before the 1st period ended. A 4 point night (1g-3a) by the Dunlop’s leading scorer, Ron Baker, and another multi point game by captain MacKeller (1g-2a) were more than the Canucks could reply to. Whitby will be on the road Sunday to take on the Vipers in Norwood. Game Summary

After jumping to a 3-0 lead the Dunlops let Frankford come storming back to tie the game and eventually take a 5-4 lead into the dressing room after 2 periods. Chris Hardill minded the Whitby net and puck stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced. Game Summary

They surrendered 49 shots to Frankford on Saturday and then gave the Cooks Bay Canucks 46 the following night in a losing weekend. This is the first time in the Dunnies re-incarnation that they suffered back to back losses. On Saturday the Frankford Huskies stormed out to a 2-0 lead with two shorthanded goals on the same Dunlop powerplay in the first period before allowing the Dunnies to tie the game before the period ended. The Dunlop markers came from the sticks of Colin Baker and Matt Armstrong. In the middle frame Matt Cardwell gave the Dunlops a brief lead before Frankford tallied 4 unanswered goals to put the game out of reach. Whitby goaltender, Chad Ford, was busy all night long and made some unbelievable saves to prevent the game from going into double digits. Game Summary

A Flurry of goals in the 3rd period leads to victory Shane McCosh scored what eventually was the winner capping a 3rd period rally that saw the home team Dunlops scoring 3 times in just over 5 minutes to edge Cooks Bay Canucks. The Shoebridge duo (Justin and Kevin) and Roy Mundy of the Canucks gave Whitby all it could handle by earning 13 points on 6 goals. A penalty shot which was awarded to Cooks Bay while they were shorthanded resulted in Roy Mundy’s first goal at 3:39 of the first period. After John Batten equaled the score, Roy Mundy went back to work with 2 more markers (giving him a natural hat trick) that put the visiting Canucks ahead 3-1 at the end of the 1st. Whitby poured 22 shots at Ron Bertrand and managed to get 3 past him in the 2nd period. All 3 goals were scored on the powerplay. Peter MacKellar was back in the lineup after serving his suspension and chalked up 3 points on the night (1G 2A). The game’s 1st Star, Colin Baker, also had a 3 point performance (2G 1A). Colin Baker’s first goal of the night gave the Dunnies a short lived lead in the 2nd before the Shoebridge Mundy line tallied to knot the score at 4-4. This set up an entertaining third period. Kevin Shoebridge scored his first of two powerplay goals in the 3rd period to give the visitors the lead but 3 goals by the Dunlops in a 3 minute span that were sandwiched between Shoebridge’s were more than the Canucks rally back from. Chris Hardill, Dunlop goalie, earned another win (his 7th) and has the best GAA in the league (.329). His save percentage is .909. Game Summary Norwood Vipers hand Whitby their first loss After Matt Cardwell put the Dunlops on the board early in the first period, Norwood Vipers scored 3 before the period ended. Game Summary Dunlop Captain MacKellar leads the way Whitby Dunlop captain, Peter MacKellar, deserved 1st star honors after netting 3 goals and setting up 3 others to earn 6 points in a 10-2 romp over the Norwood Vipers. His line mates also had big nights with Ron Baker scoring 2 goals and setting up 2 while Jay McAuley tallied once and helped on 3 others. Dunlop rear guard, Bob McQuat also showed his offensive skills by setting up 3 of this line’s tallies. Matt Balser earned the victory in the Dunlop net by stopping 34 of the 36 shots he faced. The game was out of reach for Norwood early as the Dunnies were up 3-0 before the game was 10 minutes old. The Vipers closed the gap to 3-1 at the 12:36 mark of the 1st period but Matt Cardwell threaded the needle 10 seconds later to give Whitby a 4-1 lead. The visiting Dunlops held a 5-1 lead after one period and a 9-1 lead after two periods. The Dunlops face the Lakers at home on Saturday before heading to the Barrie area to face Cook’s Bay Canucks on Sunday. Game Summary Dunnies top Frankford 7-3
John Batten (#77) led the Dunnies with a 4 point night on 2 goals and 2 assists. He was named the game's 1st star for his effort. The Whitby team threw 54 shots at Nick Vangemeren (Frankford's goalie) to earn their 6th win of the young season. Jason McAuley scored 2 goals as well and earned 2nd star honors. Frankford has a pesky squad that just kept coming at the Dunnies all game long. They hit a couple of goal posts and the cross bar at inopportune times or the score would have been closer. Both teams seemed to want to play a wide open, end to end game. Only 4 minor penalties were called on each team in a very entertaining contest. Before the Dunnies game, a dragon was hatched and skated onto the ice. The dragon is the new Dunnies mascot and he/she is still unnamed. Mascot name suggestions can be e-mailed to dunniesmascot@hotmail.com. Include your name, age and contact information. Game Summary

Dunlops dominate the west 4 straight in best 4-of-7 Series Blast lose 6-3 to Whitby Written by Ed O'Leary The EXPOSITOR
Whitby’s win gave the Dunlops the Ontario Hockey Association/Ontario Hoc Federation senior AAA best-of-seven series for the John Ross Roibertson Trophy 4-0.
The Dunlops will host Ontario North representative, Kenora Thistles, in early April in a best-of-three series for the Renwick Cup. The winner of the series will advance to the Allan Cup tournament in Stony Plain, Alta. The Blast will host the Allan Cup tournament next spring and, as the host team, will get an automatic entry into the tournament. Brent Varty gave the Dunlops a 1-0 early in the first period but defenceman Dan Pitre tied the score at 18:59 of the period. The Blast took a 2-1 early in the second period when Ryan Healy jammed in a power-play goal from the side of the net. However, the Dunlops responded with power-play goals by Peter MacKellar and Jay McAuley to lead 3-2. Rice scored late in the second period when Chad Spurr won control of the puck deep in the Whitby zone and found his winger free in front of the net to flip the puck past goaltender Chad Ford. Scott McCrory regained the lead for the Dunlops at the 5:17 mark of the third period. The veteran centre carried the puck over the Blast blueline and, as he did so, each Brantford player picked up a player to check except McCrory, who walked in alone on Blast goaltender Anthony Marshall. The Dunlops caught the Blast pressing late in the third period and Jon Ross scored for a 5-3 lead. McAuley added an empty-net goal in the final minute. Summary Ed O'Leary The EXPOSITOR..whole story
Police come to players bench in Hard Fought win for Dunnies PICTURES
The visiting Whitby Dunlops handed the Brantford Blast another defeat in their quest for a chance to win the best-of-7 series for the Robertson Trophy. Former NHLer, Steve Rice, got the hometown Blast on the board first on a nice play. Rice took the puck from the corner and headed toward the net with it and tucked it in after some slick stick handling. The Dunnies got that one back when #40 Brent Varty squeezed one past Anthony Marshall (see picture on left..puck is in the corner of the net) as Jon Ross is levelled in front of the net and the 1st period ended deadlocked at 1-1. The 2nd period belonged to Whitby as they scored two goals in just over two minutes to take what seemed like an insurmountable lead to the dressing room after two periods. Midway through the 2nd period Bryan Hamm of Brantford and Corey Bricknell of the Dunlops squared off and had a pretty good tussle. As Bryan Hamm was leaving the ice to go to his dressing room he had words and tried to get at the Whitby players on the bench. He had an altercation with Bob McQuat as McQuat sat at the end of the player’s bench while waiting for his turn to play. Local police that were in uniform at the game quickly came down to the benches to restore some law & order. Bryan Hamm was assessed a fighting major and two game misconducts for his shenanigans. Both Bricknell and McQuat were handed majors for fighting and game misconducts. Gregg Henshall, the Whitby Dunlop equipment manager, was also attacked and was ejected from the game as well. In the pictures from the link above you'll see Gregg being escorted off the player's bench. This seemed to ignite the Dunlops attack and liven the crowd of about 1100 Brantford fans. The 3rd period saw the hometown Blast come fighting back as the Dunnies were reeling from trying to defend 5 straight penalties. The Blast continued to take runs at Whitby goalie, Chad Ford, who got a left hand glove free to deck one of his attackers and cause another melee. After the Blast had tied the game by storming the Dunlop crease Justin Cardwell gave the Dunnies the win on a beautifully executed break-in rush while the Dunlops were a man short. The goal earned the Dunnies the victory and a commanding 3-0 lead in the series. The next home game will be played Sunday March 25th. Game time is 2:00 PM and will be played at Iroquois Park in Whitby. Summary More Pictures
The Dunlops take a 2-0 series lead by defeating the Blast 5-2 After the visiting Brantford Blast got a gift from the Dunlops on the first goal, the Whitby team rallied and fired 5 goals past Anthony Marshall before the Blast got their 2nd of the game to round out the scoring. A miscommunication in the opening period between the Whitby defense and goaltender Chad Ford resulted in the puck entering the Whitby goal off goaltender Ford’s stick. The Blast captain, #5 Tyler Pelton, was credited with the goal. This would be the only blemish against Chad Ford on the night as he stopped 38 of the 39 other shots he faced to earn a 1st star selection. In the middle frame Peter MacKellar got the Dunlops even on the scoreboard at the 1:47 mark. Peter fired his shot high, just under the crossbar after being set up from Ron Baker and Shane McCosh. Other Dunlop goals in the period came from Colin Baker and Bob McQuat. McQuat was fed a drop pass as he cruised into the slot area and made no mistake as he fired a howitzer past a startled Brantford goalie, Anthony Marshall to give the home town Dunlops a two goal lead to end the second period. In the 3rd period the Dunnies continued in the scoring department. Brent Gaylor netted his 2nd of this series just over 5 minutes in and then Mike Van Volsen scored his 1st of the series on a nice tic-tac-toe play between himself, Dale Junkin and Justin Cardwell. The game was much closer than the score would indicate. Brantford had 40 shots on the Whitby goal while Whitby shot 41 at Brantford’s. The 3rd game in the series will be played Friday March 23rd at 8 PM in Brantford. The Dunlops next home game will be played Sunday March 25th at 2 PM in the Iroquois Park Sports Complex. Summary
Whitby Dunlops edge the Brantford Blast in GAME 1 more pictures The Dunlops looked a bit rusty in the first period but Chad Ford held off the Blast attack and the 1st period ended with no scoring. The visiting Dunnies got their "skating legs" in the 2nd and got on the board first on a nice rush up the right side by #24 Brent Gaylor who put one in on the short side on a beautiful cross-ice setup from Jon Ross. The Brantford Blast captain, #5 Tyler Pelton, got one in the second to tie the score before Peter MacKellar fooled Brantford goalie, Anthony Marshall, with a "knuckleball" shot that found it's way into the net to give the Dunnies the lead again. On a Whitby power play: The Blast's leading playoff goal scorer, #22 Chad Spurr, got one shorthanded and his linemate, #11 Jim Baxter scored the go ahead goal one minute and nineteen seconds later while the Dunnies were unravelling a bit defensively. Whitby Dunlop captain, #8 Peter MacKellar, did his magic once again by threading a perfect pass to #17 Jay McAuley who roofed the shot to tie the game as the second period wound down. This setup a showdown in the 3rd with #86 Justin Cardwell putting the Dunnies up by one again but the home town Blast knotted the score again on Chad Spurr's 2nd of the game less than two minutes later. The winner came off the stick of Whitby's leading playoff goal scorer, #9 Ron Baker who got his 5th playoff goal in 5 games. Peter MacKellar, who had carried the puck into the Brantford zone and froze the goalie by faking a slapshot before he feathered a perfect pass to Baker, setup the goal that Baker deflected over Brantford goalie #33 Anthony Marshall. This goal came with just over 5 minutes remaning in regulation time and the Dunnies successfully went into a defensive shell to preserve the win. Whitby goaltender, #1 Chad Ford, was rattled twice in the 2nd period, once after taking a rising Brantford shot on the shoulder, but managed to stay in the game after receiving some medical assistance on the ice from Whitby's training staff. He was very sharp in stopping 39 of the Brantford's 43 shots to earn the victory. The Dunnies lead the best 4-of-7 series 1-0. Game 2 of the series will be played at Iroquois Park on Sunday March 18 4 PM. Summary (#27 was worn by Colin Baker - 1st goal #24 not #4)
EOSHL Champion Whitby Dunlops to take on MLH Champion Brantford Blast The Brantford Blast eliminated their opponent in 4 straight just like the Dunlops had done previously to Norwood. The Blast beat the visiting Saints by a score of 4-3. Windsor took a 2-0 lead but Brantford came back once again and proved to be the stronger team both on the scoresheet and in goal. The series between Whitby and Brantford will commence shortly and times and dates will be posted as soon as they are available.
Brantford Blast Takes Stranglehold in MLH FINALS Windsor Saints, who ended the regular season in 1st place in the MLH standings, face elimination as Brantford Blast wins their third straight game in the best 4-of-7 MLH Final playoffs. The winner of this series will go on to face the EOSHL Champion Whitby Dunlops in a best 4-of-7 series. Led by Tyler Pelton, who led the league with 28 regular season goals, and the stellar goaltending of Anthony Marshall (a measly 1.67 GAA versus Windsor in the finals) the Brantford Blast continued their winning ways. Brantford battled Petrolia Squires in the first round of playoffs and finally edged the Squires in double overtime of the 7th game. Windsor eliminated the Tillsonburg Vipers in six games. In the first game of the MLH Finals the home town, Windsor Saints, stormed to a quick 3-0 lead by the 4:02 mark of the 1st period but then Brantford settled down and Tyler Pelton scored the winner with his 2nd goal of the game midway through the 3rd period for the Brantford comeback victory. The Saints pulled their goalie in the final minute while down 4-3 but that backfired as the Brantford team blasted two empty netters to seal the victory. In the second game, played at the Brantford Civic Centre, Wayne Muir of the Blast did the damage as he scored early in the game and then netted the eventual winner in the 2nd period. Windsor had closed the gap to 2-1 heading into the 3rd period but Tyler Pelton scored his 3rd in this series and 5th of the playoffs to regain a two goal lead for Brantford. Jeremy Bloomfield added some extra insurance for the Blast as he was setup by Chad Spurr who leads all MLH playoff scorers with 17 points in 10 games played. The third game in this best 4-of-7 series went back to Windsor and was played at the South Windsor Arena. The Saints peppered the Blast goalie, Anthony Marshall, with 23 shots in the opening frame but couldn’t get anything by him while the Brantford power play got credit for the 1st period’s only goal. Adriano Fiacconi on a setup from Tyler Pelton and Andrew Taylor got the Blast on the score sheet at 4:37 of the second period. Chad Spurr scored, his 6th of the playoffs, just over two minutes later and team mate Steve Hurst put the Brantford Blast up 3-0 at the end of the second period. Jim Lebarron got one for the Saints on the power play but that was “all she wrote” and with that victory the Blast has a chance to eliminate the MLH 1st place Saints when they resume action on Monday March 12th in Brantford.
Dunnies Power Play too strong for Vipers to defend The Whitby Dunlops advanced to the next level of playoff contention by sweeping their series with the Norwood Vipers in 4 straight games. In the game, the power play netted 3 of the 4 Dunnies goals. The Dunnies, as has been the case so often in the past, were led by their Captain Peter Mackellar who got them on the scoreboard just prior to the six minute mark of the first period on the power play. Colin Baker, who wore #21 instead of his familiar #44, popped the only even strength goal the visiting Dunnies would get. A stellar performance in the 2nd period particularly by Norwood net minder, #31 Kevin Rainey, who turned away all 18 shots he faced earned him 1st star honors at game end. The Vipers were handed a perfect opportunity to get back in the game late in the 2nd period when Paul Brooks went to the box at 17:42 followed closely by Martin Kearns. This two man advantage which stretched into the 3rd period got Norwood no results and seemed to take the wind out of their sales. Ron Baker, a 27 goal scorer in the regular season, scored his 4th of the playoffs to give the visiting Dunlops a 3-0 lead in the game. Bob McQuat, who leads his team and the EOSHL in this year’s playoff point’s race, earned his 11th point in 4 games with an assist on the play. This power play was courtesy of Justin Pollock who was assessed a 5 minute major penalty for slashing as he tried to chop down Peter MacKellar early in the third period. Chad Birkhof finally got the Vipers on the board with a solo effort only to see Justin Cardwell put the Dunnies up by three again less than two minutes later. Mike VanVolsen, who partnered with McQuat on the power play, got his 2nd helper of the night on the goal. The Vipers were given new life with just under six minutes left in this “do-or-die” game. Greg McIntyre lit a fire in the building by scoring at 14:06 and when, Norwood’s top regular season scorer, Nick Less tallied one at 17:06 to close the gap to 4-3 the momentum was going in Norwood’s favor. The Dunnies caught a break when Joe Hawley, one of Norwood’s top 3 gunners, was assessed an interference penalty at 18:01. In the last flurry of their playoff lives the Vipers couldn’t put one past Chad Ford. Ford earned 2nd star honors and remains undefeated this season. The Whitby Dunlops are awaiting the results of the series in the west (Major League Hockey). At this time they are just finishing the first of two series. The winners of the two series, currently being played, will playoff against each other with the winner taking on the EOSHL Champion Whitby Dunlops. Summary
3 MMM's buzz past Norwood Once again Bob McQuat showed his stuff. McQuat set up 3 while team mates McCosh had 2 goals including the tying goal with 10 seconds left to play in regulation time and McAuley had 2 goals also including the winner at 1:12 of overtime. With the win the Dunnies take a strangle hold on the series. They lead the best-of-7 series 3-0. The winner of this series will represent the EOSHL vs Major League Hockey (West). The next game will be played in Norwood on Wednesday night at 8:00 PM. Summary

Ron Baker notched two goals while Dale Junkin, Shane McCosh and Paul Brooks chipped in one each. Chad Ford played well in net when he had to and was forced to defend himself on a couple of occasions from the Vipers swarming him in the crease. Whitby leads to best-of-7 series 2 games to 0. The series resumes in Norwood Sunday and Wednesday. The next scheduled game at Iroquois Park will be held at 6:30 PM Saturday March 3rd if neccessary. Summary
Chippy Contest win gives Whitby 1-0 lead in best of 7 The score was not indicitive of the play as rival Norwood came to town to start EOSHL AAA series playoffs. Whitby cracked it open in the 3rd period after leading by a 3-0 score at the end of the 2nd period. Norwood fired 35 shots at Chad Ford but couldn't get the goose egg off the scoreboard until almost midway through the 3rd period. The Dunnies had taken the lead on goals by Ron Baker and Dale Junkin a couple of minutes apart midway through the 1st period. Peter MacKellar was the recipient of a gift goal after Martin Kearns had gone coast to coast and tried to tuck the puck past the Norwood goalie. The rebound came right onto Peter MacKellar's stick and he made no mistake in scoring his first of two on the night. Paul Brooks showed his scoring touch in the 3rd with 2 markers. The Dunnies came out storming in the 3rd period by scoring 3 goals in 1:36. Brent Varty got the other Dunlop goal. Chad Ford, Dunlop goalie, stopped 33 of the 35 shots he faced. The next game is being played at Iroquois Park facility on Saturday Feb 24 at 6:30 pm. Summary

Frankford romps with 8-2 win The Dunnies were short handed because of some other committments by some of the players and Frankford took full advantage scoring four goals in the 2nd period and four more in the 3rd to earn the victory. Freeland and VanDamn each had three point nights for the Huskies. Summary
The Dunnies score two 3rd period markers for 3-2 win over Norwood Norwood led 2-1 going into the 3rd period but Whitby earned the victory by peppering the Viper net with 22 shots in the 3rd period and scoring on 2 of those shots. Summary
Norwood edges Whitby 6-4 Five Norwood goals in the last 6 minutes of the game erased a 4-1 Whitby lead and handed the Dunnies their 4th loss of the season. Summary
Five 3rd Period goals by Norwood to earn win
Goals by Matt Armstrong (9th), Colin Baker (20th), Martin Kearns (3rd) and Paul Brooks (7th) gave Whitby seemed to be a comfortable 4-1 score at the end of 2 periods. The Dunnies were fine until they ran into penalty trouble starting with a roughing penalty assessed to Ron Baker at the 13:16 mark of the 3rd period. Off the face-off Peter MacKellar was given a holding the stick penalty just 2 seconds later. With the Dunnies playing two men short, Matt Mezenberg scored Norwood’s first of three Viper power play markers in 54 seconds. This goal allowed Ron Baker to return but the visiting Dunnies were still one man short when Paul Brooks was assessed a hooking penalty which allowed Norwood another two man advantage. Buttar scored for the Vipers 4 seconds after that penalty which allowed MacKellar to return but Whitby had another Norwood goal find the back of the net before Brooks could serve his full 2 minutes. Norwood’s attack was stymied by these three goals and they got the winner and the insurance goal with just under two minutes left in the game. Matt Balser suffered his first loss as a Dunnie this year but really had no chance while Norwood had a shooting gallery with their two man advantages. Summary
Colin Baker's late goal edges Whitby past pesky Huskies In a hard fought, very evenly played, game the Dunnies, on a spectacular rush by Matt Cardwell late in the game, got the game winner off the stick of Colin Baker (19th) to edge past a much improved Frankford Huskie hockey club. The Frankford Huskies had pounded the Norwood Vipers the previous night and gave the Dunnies all they could handle all game long. Whitby had a very balanced attack with six different players notching the goals but Peter MacKellar was once again a force to be reckoned with as he helped in scoring one himself (28th) and setting up three for a four point night while being double teamed most of the night. A new addition, Greg Williams (1st), and returning star, Scott McCrory (1st), both had markers while Jay McAuley (22nd) and Ron Baker (18th) rounded out the scoring. Joel Whitmarsh, who was fighting a bout of the flu, earned the victory for Whitby in net. Both teams had 42 shots on goal. Hockey Canada will host a special evening to honor the players and family of players from the Championship 1958 Whitby Dunlops team at the game this Saturday February 3rd, Iroquois Park 6:30 PM. ...Details Summary
Peter MacKellar's Hat Trick helps sink the Vipers The Dunnies finally earned a win over the Norwood Vipers after losing their last two games they played against Norwood. MacKellar opened the scoring in the first period and Brent Varty put the hometown Dunnies up by two midway through the second period. Jamie McComb and Mike Banks evened up the game at 2-2 but MacKellar pounced on a Ron Baker rebound to give the Dunlops a one goal lead going into the third frame. Mike Banks got his second goal of the game to tie the score and Dave Stewart, on a howitzer from the point, scored to put the pesky Vipers up by one at the 9:07 mark of the third period. Whitby Dunlops new line of Colin Baker, Justin Cardwell and, newly acquired, Dale Junkin put on quite a show on their shift by scoring two goals (the equalizer and the winner) in 31 seconds. The winning goal, scored by Dale Junkin, was particularly nice to watch. Colin Baker forced a Norwood turnover in the centre ice area and the three Dunnies turned on the jets to outskate the Vipers and create a beautifully executed three way passing play that ended up in the Norwood net off the stick of Junkin. With less than a minute to play the Vipers pulled their goalie only to have MacKellar calmly take control of the puck from a Viper centre ice turnover and flip the puck up in the air past the Viper attackers into the empty Norwood net to seal the victory and give himself a hat trick. Chad Ford played in net and earned the victory stopping 39 of the 43 shots he faced. Summary
Dunlops claw their way back to victory
The return to the lineup of Bob McQuat and Shayne McCosh, who resigned with the team in the past week, paid immediate dividends as both players scored in Whitby Dunlops comeback win after trailing 3-0.
Adam VanDam had put the Huskies up by two, scoring his 2nd in the final minute of the 1st period, and Robert Finch scored in the first minute of the 2nd period to give the hometown Huskies what appeared to be a commanding lead.
This is when Whitby’s “Killer MMMs” went to work. Goals by MacKellar, McCosh, McQuat and MacKellar again and two assists from McAuley put the traveling Dunnies up for good by the 9:25 mark of the third frame. Ron Baker, who was the guest in the morning on the CKDO Dunnies Hockey Insider Show and who was fresh off a six point performance in his last game, helped setup three of the Whitby goals to vault him into the scoring lead for the EOSHL with 51 points in 20 games played. Ron’s line mates Jay McAuley has 48 points and Peter MacKellar has 47 points to date. Matt Balser, who rejoined the team this past week, stopped 35 of the 39 shots he faced to earn the win. Dale Junkin, another player that was signed in the past week, did not make the trip.
Summary
Dunnies completely dominate versus Marmora Lakers Summary
Norwood Vipers win their 2nd in a row versus Dunlops Nick Lees (1st star of the game) helped send the visiting Dunlops home with their 3rd loss of the season and 2nd in a row to the Vipers. Lees 2 goals and 2 assists along with goals from 4 other team mates sank the Whitby team by a score of 6-3. A tired Joel Whitmarsh, Dunlop goalie, faced a barrage of 47 shots after facing 46 in last night's contest versus Frankford. On a positive note for the Dunnes was the return of Mike VanVolsen to the lineup. Mike won the Best Defenceman in EOSHL last season and played a great game. He scored two power play goals for Whitby who were 3 for 11 with the man advatage. Paul Brooks and Joe Hawley exchanged pleasantries in the 1st period and were sent to the showers early. These two teams will face each other in the next home game for Whitby. Summary
Captain MacKellar comes back to lineup BIG TIME!! It didn't take Captain Peter MacKellar long to make his return count on the scoreboard. He coralled his own rebound to put the Dunnies ahead at the 0:39 mark of the first period. This would prove to be his first of 4 points on the night (2G & 2A).Two power play goals in just over one minute gave the visiting Huskies the lead at 2-1 but Sean Firth got one in the final minute of the 1st period to send the teams to the dressing room tied 2-2. The 2nd period was all Whitby as they seemed to find their skating legs. They fired 18 shots on the Frankford net and capitalized on 3 of them to take what seemed like a commanding lead 5-2 to end the 2nd period. Frankford got called with a too many men penalty and then a hooking penalty that gave the Dunnies a 2 man advantage to start the 3rd period for 1 minute and 35 seconds. The Dunlops squandered this opportunity with the 2 man advantage and didn't register a shot on the Frankford net during it. The home town Dunnies seemed completely in control until the game took a strange twist. Stuart Bissett of the Huskies took a hooking penalty at the 12:09 mark of the 3rd period which gave the Dunlops another opportunity to bury the Huskies as they enjoyed the man advantage but someone forgot to tell Brandon Dafoe who orchestrated a Frankford comeback with 2 shorthanded goals in a 35 seond span to bring the Huskies to within one. Jordan Freeland, who has battled Jay McAuley, Ron Baker and Peter MacKellar for the goal scoring lead all season, scored one from the high slot to knot the game 5-5. The game looked as if it was heading into overtime before Peter MacKellar stormed the net from his right side and Frankford goalie Adam Taylor couldn't prevent the rebound from going right onto Paul Brooks' stick for a tap in winning goal. It was a fun game for the fans to watch as the teams exchanged 84 shots (46 by Huskies and 38 by Dunlops). Joel Whitmarsh played in net for Whitby and was sharp on many occassions to help propel the Dunlops to their 16th win. Summary
The Dunlops Lose thier first Home game in a chippy affair The Norwood Vipers came into Iroquois Park Complex and played a very strong game to hand the Whitby Dunlops thier first loss on home ice this season. The Vipers fired 68 shots at Dunnies goalie, Joel Whitmarsh, on route to the victory. Joe Hawley's hat trick led the scoring for the Vipers. The score was tied 1-1 after the 1st period but Norwood's Joe Hawley found his scoring touch early in the 2nd period with a couple of quick ones before the period hit the 8 minute mark. Ron Baker brought the home town Dunlops to within one goal to end the 2nd period with the Vipers hanging on to a 3-2 lead. Joe Hawley once again found the net and scored his 3rd of the night to put the Vipers up by two at 0:52 of the 3rd period. The Vipers cotinued thier relentless attack by outshooting the Dunnies 28-2 in the 3rd period. The "highlite reel" goal of the night was scored by Chad Birkof on a "dipsy doodle" stickhandling exhibition. The Dunlops were without a few of thier regulars. Bob McQuat was missed on defence and Peter MacKellar was missed up front. These two teams meet again on Sunday January 7th in Norwood. The Dunnies next home game is against the 2nd place Frankford Huskies at Iroquois Park on Saturday January 6th at 6:30 PM. Summary

Dunlops Power works to down Norwood Vipers The Dunnies power play clicked for 3 goals, 2 scored by Justin Cardwell, to win a cliff hanger by a score of 4-3. Chad Ford made a fantastic right pad save with only 17 seconds on the clock to keep the hometeam Dunnies ahead by one. The Norwood Vipers had their goaltender pulled and had an extra man on the ice when Ford cooly kicked his pad out for the save. Seth Gray of the Dunnies on a setup from McAuley and Bricknell had tied the score at 1-1 on a power play marker with just over 2 minutes left in the 1st period after Joe Hawley, on a short-handed marker, had put Norwood ahead. The Vipers scored to go ahead again just after the opening faceoff of the 2nd frame but Justin Cardwell tied the game (assists went to Matt Cardwell and Chad Ford) at 2-2 only to see Joe Hawley work his magic once again and give the visiting Vipers a 3-2 lead at the start of period number three. The hit of the night came at the 8 minute mark of the 2nd frame when Whitby defenceman, Bob McQuat, levelled #23 Sean Stefanski (son of former Oshawa General Bud Stefanski) as he came in on an attempted breakin. From my vantage point it looked like McQuat got robbed by the statistician after setting up a couple of other goals but earning no points on the scoresheet for his efforts. Chad Ford started his second game in a row and looked sharp. The Dunlops had complete control of the game and got lackadaisical after jumping to a 4-1 lead only to see Norwood score a couple of quick goals in the 3rd period to make the game close at the end. The captain, Peter MacKellar, scored his 4th goal into an empty net in the last minute to seal the victory for the visiting Dunlops. In the 2nd period MacKellar, who was hauled down while on a breakaway, was awarded a penalty shot but Norwood's goalie, Scott Birkhof, closed the pads quickly as MacKellar tried to score in the five hole. Mike Posavad, coach of the Dunlops, missed being at the game because his mother became ill in the afternoon. He got to the arena as the game was coming to an end. His mother is recovering and we wish her a quick return to good health. summary
SPECIALTHANKS to Roger Lajoie for emceeing our Home Opener
New Season Begins against Norwood Peter MacKellar (1 goal 2 assists) and Ron Baker (2 goals 1 assist) were back as they left off last year. The return of Justin Cardwell, who also cashed in a three point night with 3 helpers, to that line added to it's potency. Newcomer in goal for the Dunnies was former Belleville rival, Chad Ford. The Dunnies have 9 new faces in it's lineup. They added some youth and definitely some speed to thier lineup. Brent Gaylor and newcomer, Jay McAuley, scored the other Dunnie markers. Nick Lees and Jim McMillan replied for the visitors. Balser keeps bucking the odds by Brian McNair Oshawa This Week April 12
Of all the interesting individual paths leading to the Whitby Dunlops, Matt Balser's is likely the most difficult to believe. Or, put another way, the most encouraging. Here's a kid, after all, who didn't play AAA hockey while growing up in Oshawa. In fact, he didn't play AA. Balser, now just 22, played single-A hockey in Oshawa and was considered a longshot even when he skated into the camp of the Junior C Port Perry MoJacks five years ago more
